If you are like me, the term “compression hose” brings to mind those unflattering tan-colored stockings worn by old, sick people with heart conditions. I used to think that if you are young and healthy, why would you wear compression hose? My thinking changed, though, because in the early stages of my pregnancy, I was presented with the opportunity to try out the TRAMPS line of maternity compression hose. At the time, I did not know about the benefits of wearing compression hose during pregnancy, but I was intrigued by the fashionable colors and style options. I thought, hey, even if they do not make a big difference, at least they look cute! Here is my TRAMPS fashion compression hose story.
I began wearing my TRAMPS fashion compression hosiery maternity style, “EMILY”, beginning the 20th week of my pregnancy. This is when my “baby bump” was beginning to emerge. I was happy to discover they were not difficult to put on, because most compression hose feels as though you are stuffing yourself into a tight pair of pants about three sizes too small! The breathable fabric of the hose made it possible to slip them on without discomfort. I appreciated the extra support the hose provided my belly by the expandable panels. As my baby grew, the hose grew along with me, expanding and providing comfort and support. It was so nice to have such a comfortable and supportive garment that was easy to wear. As my pregnancy went on, I learned, as most pregnant women can attest, that a growing baby bump makes it difficult to dress yourself in cute outfits. The TRAMPS compression hose was a surprisingly cute and versatile addition to my maternity wardrobe. I discovered that they looked beautiful with dresses, and were comfortable enough to wear during exercise. I wore them to work every day under my scrubs, and instead of making me hot and uncomfortable during the muggy Texas summer, the fabric proved to be breathable, cool.
As a Registered nurse, I spend a lot of time on my feet. The constant walking, standing, or running (if necessary) takes a toll on your legs. Tired, sore, aching feet and legs at the end of a long shift is an all too familiar feeling for most nurses. Before my TRAMPS experience, I can remember how exhausted I felt after a shift, feeling those aches and pains. Once I began wearing the TRAMPS compression hose, however, I was surprised to discover that I still had energy after work! Because of this extra energy, I was able to continue working all through my pregnancy, right up to 3 days before my daughter was born! Without TRAMPS compression hose, I know that working while pregnant would have been completely exhausting for me.
How does compression hose work, and why is it so effective for pregnant women? During pregnancy, a woman’s blood and fluid volume increase to support the growth of a healthy baby. This extra volume causes strain on the circulatory system. Standing all day causes the extra fluid to pool in the legs, which leads to unsightly varicose veins, and swollen, puffy ankles. Compression hose works to combat these problems by providing extra support to the veins as they return the blood to the heart, and gently squeezing the fluid up and out of the ankle space. My TRAMPS compression hose did all this for me. I never had varicose veins or swollen ankles during my entire pregnancy! In fact, it was so effective that the nurse who attended my delivery told me in her 30 years of experience, I was the first mom she had ever seen without swollen ankles. Amazing, right?
Because of this amazing experience, I am convinced that the compression hose makes all the difference. TRAMPS fashion compression hose is awesome because it not only gets the job done but looks great doing it! Compression hose is great for pregnant women, great for nurses, great for anyone! I am proud to give my personal RN recommendation to TRAMPS fashion compression hosiery. Now go and get yourself a pair!
